Planning for Aging Across the Region: 2024–2028 Area Plan

Central Pines Area Agency on Aging’s four-year plan sets regional priorities for supporting older adults, adults with disabilities and family caregivers through coordinated services, advocacy and community partnerships.

A shared plan for an aging region

How communities respond to an aging population affects health, independence, housing, caregiving and quality of life across the region. The 2024–2028 Regional Area Plan on Aging establishes the priorities guiding Central Pines Area Agency on Aging and its partners through June 2028.

Developed as part of Central Pines’ responsibilities under the Older Americans Act, the plan provides a framework for building a coordinated system of aging services while responding to the changing needs of older adults, adults with disabilities and family caregivers.

Six priorities for the region

The plan organizes the agency’s work around six areas:

  • Safety, Protection & Advocacy
  • Healthy Aging & Quality of Life
  • Housing & Homelessness
  • Caregiving Support & Workforce Development
  • Long-Term Preparedness Planning
  • Advancing Equity & Reframing Aging

These priorities are informed by the North Carolina State Aging Plan and are intended to reflect the needs and goals of people aging throughout the Central Pines region.

From planning to local action

The Area Plan is more than a reporting requirement. It helps Central Pines and its partners align funding, programs, advocacy and regional coordination around shared goals.

That work includes strengthening community-based services, helping people remain independent, supporting family caregivers, protecting the rights of older adults and planning for longer-term changes in housing, workforce and service needs.
