Family Caregiver Support Program: Eligibility & Services

See who may qualify for Family Caregiver Support Program services, including respite and supplemental support, and where to start.

Who can receive caregiver support?

Central Pines’ Family Caregiver Support Program helps unpaid family caregivers find information, education, respite and other support.

Program services may be available to:

  • Adults age 18+ caring for someone age 60+, or for a person of any age living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
  • Relative caregivers age 55+ who are raising a related child age 18 or younger.
  • Parents or other relatives age 55+ caring for an adult age 18–59 with a disability.

Additional requirements for respite

For Family Caregiver Support Program-funded respite or supplemental services, the person receiving care must either have Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia, or need help with at least two daily activities such as bathing, dressing, walking, transferring, eating or toileting.

Can family caregivers be paid?

North Carolina’s Family Caregiver Support Program does not pay family members to provide care. In some Medicaid-funded home-care situations, a relative may be able to serve as a paid caregiver; those arrangements are handled through the county Department of Social Services.
