Organization is one of nine to achieve the all-new designation

Durham, NC — Central Pines Regional Council has been recognized as an Accredited TDM Organization by the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT). This newly minted distinction recognizes organizations meeting industry-wide criteria for commitment to administrative excellence, the field of TDM, and continuous improvement.

These high-performing organizations have proven they possess the governance, structure, and integration with the broader field required to deliver effective programs and services. They are the first to achieve accreditation, which will last for three years. At that time, they must provide documentation of their continued excellence and improvement to renew their status.

"We are grateful for this national recognition of the great work that Central Pines and our community partners are doing in the area of Transportation Demand Management," said Matt Day, Central Pines Regional Council Transportation Director.  "Our Triangle Transportation Choices program works with multiple partner agencies and organizations to encourage and educate the region's residents about opportunities to use transit, carpool/vanpool, bicycle, walk, and other methods of reducing single-occupant vehicle trips, thereby reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality."

“Seeing these nine organizations achieve accreditation further strengthens my confidence in TDM's future," said Thomas Cerny, Chair of ACT’s Accreditation Committee. "For the first time, thanks to these pilot participants and the dedication of numerous volunteers, TDM professionals have a clear framework to identify and implement key characteristics from top-performing organizations. I encourage others to pursue accreditation in 2025 so that, together, we can learn, grow, and elevate the entire field."

Other Accredited TDM Organizations include:

  • City of Aspen
  • City of Missoula
  • Colorado State University
  • Commute.org
  • Greater Richmond Transit Company
  • Susquehanna Regional Transportation Partnership
  • University of California, Los Angeles
  • University of Minnesota

CPRC’s TDM Program- Triangle Transportation Choices, is a marketing and outreach effort to promote alternative transportation modes such as biking, walking, telework, transit, vanpool, carpool, etc., within a seven-county region of North Carolina including the Triangle. CPRC has been receiving grant funding from North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) as well as CAMPO and Triangle West (ex DCHC) MPOs, since 2007 for program administration and management. It annually subawards funding to the tune of $1.5- $2.0 million to local organizations for promoting TDM strategies.

“Establishing a universal set of standards for excellence benefits both the industry and all the people it serves,” said David Straus, Executive Director of the Association for Commuter Transportation. “Congratulations to these nine organizations for being industry trailblazers. Each is a meaningful role model for innovation, efficiency, and commitment to delivering innovative mobility solutions.”

The association will extend the chance to seek accreditation to all eligible organizations within the next few months. Further information about Accredited TDM Organizations can be found here.
